As so many others Christian Bakkerud began racing in go-carts. But as soon as he changed to real cars he went directly into racing outside Denmark.
He drove in Formula BMW - first in Germany and later in England where he drove one year for Carlin Motorsport and his results were good enough to take the step to British Formula 3 together with Carlin.
The first year resulted in 7th in the championship - a result he improved to 6th in 2006. But late in 2006 Bakkerud was among the fastest F3-drivers and he was able to claim his first victory.
This was followed by a step up to GP2 - and a year without much succes. Even worse was, that during 2007 a back injury was causing Christian Bakkerud more and more trouble. He continued in GP2 for 2008 but a couple of crashes did nothing good for his back and halfway through the year he had to quit to try to recover.
In 2009 he joined the DTM in a 2-year old Audi and he also got his first start in the Le Mans 24 hour race. But after a year close to the rear end of the DTM-field and a final apperance at Le Mans 2010 Bakkerud decided to quit motorsport.
Sadly he was involved in a car crash in september 2011 and died from his injuries at september 11th 2011.
