Michelle Gatting - Classic Race Aarhus 2016
|
Michelle Gatting began racing karts when she was 8 years old and she quickly showed, that she was just as fast as the boys she was competing against. In 2009 she won the Danish Championship in KF2 and in 2011 she was ready to graduate to single seaters. Already in her first year she came 3rd in the Danish Formula Ford Championship. Then she went abroad and drove in Germany in the Scirocco-cup and she also had some races in the german Porsche Carrera cup.
In 2016 she made herself a household name in Denmark. First, when she began racing in the DTC Championship and not least when she in the summen won the most publicised race of the year - the street race in Copenhagen. From then she was among the favourites in the championship. After some years in the DTC and later in Danish Super GT, she had more or less decided upon staying in Denmark, but suddenly some opportunities for racing abroad turned up unexpected.
Early in her career Michelle Gatting had contact to FIA Women in Motorsport, but the contact ended when the FIA could not approve her decision to race in the Porsche Carrera cup. However they apparently still followed her progress for during 2018 she was contacted and offered testing both for GT-racing and for the W-series championship for women.
Finally she had to choose between the two options. A tough choice, but she went for GT-racing and in 2019 she became a part of 'Iron Dames' - 3 girls who drove a Ferrari in ELMS and - not least - the 24h Le Mans.
