Kristian Kolby - 2002
|
Kristian Kolby began racing kart as early as possible - When he was 10 years old.
Early is actually a quite good one-word description of Kristian Kolby's career. He was no more than 16 years old when he changed to single-seaters. He was not allowed to drive any cars in Denmark at that age - not even at a racetrack - so his debut took place in Formula Vauxhall in England, where til Kolby family lived at that time.
In 1995 Kristian Kolby participated in the British Formula Ford 1800 Championship and did it so well that he was elected as the most promising young driver. That was a good choice because Kristian Kolby won the championship the following year.
His career went on via Formula Renault to british Formula 3. Here he ended up as 4th in the championship in 1999. In year 2000 the graduated to Formula 3000 and he also raced at the LeMans 24 Hours race - but he did not have much succes either place.
In 2001 Kristian Kolby drove Indy Lights in the USA. He won a single race on his way to 8th in the championship, but even if he also tried sportscar racing with Ascari at the Sebring 12 Hours in 2002, his career didn't take off in the USA. He returned to Europe but after a few Formula 3000 races late in the year he quitted motor racing.
