Comments

Michael Christensen drove the 2019 Nürburgring 24H race for Manthey Racing. The car was driven by a very strong driver setup and they quickly showed, that they wanted to win the race. After 5 hours they took the lead and even though it was close racing they were able to slowly pull away. 3 hours before the end the Porsche had led for 14 hours, but the bad luck stroke! The team got a penalty for speeding at a yellow flag.

The penalty was a draconian 5 minutes and 32 second stop-and-go and that left the team well behind the leaders. But as it often is at the Nürburgring the final hours was filled with drama. Several of the leading cars had setbacks and this meant the Manthey Porsche was again in the fight for the win. However, they missed the win with 30 seconds and finished as second.

The disappointment was huge but it should become even worse. Two weeks after the race the car was disqualified for breaking the balance of performance rules. The team acknowledged they had made a mistake and accepted the verdict.
